China eSIM for Long Stays: 15- and 30-Day Plans

China eSIM plans for long stays of up to 90 days

A month in China is a different data problem from a week. You stop being a tourist — you take video calls, upload photos, use maps every day — and a plan that looked generous for five days looks thin by week three.

Every plan below lasts 15 or 30 days. The question is not which is cheapest, but which combination of allowance and validity fits how you actually use a phone.

How to size a month

  • Count your heavy days, not your average — Most long-stay travellers use very little on weekdays and a lot at weekends. A total-data pool absorbs that pattern; a daily plan wastes capacity on quiet days.
  • Tethering changes the maths — If you connect a laptop, budget several gigabytes per working day. In that case a 3 GB/day plan is cheaper than buying total-data plans repeatedly.
  • Validity is the hard limit — A 30-day plan bought before departure still starts on first connection, so you do not lose days waiting for your flight. But once the 30 days are up, the plan ends even if data remains.

Before you buy

  • Install and test the eSIM on Wi-Fi before you leave — a failed install is far easier to fix at home than in a dorm room.
  • Keep your home SIM in the phone for bank and app verification codes.
  • If you plan to tether, check that your phone allows personal hotspot on a secondary eSIM line.

Frequently asked questions

Which China plan is best for a 30-day stay?
For moderate use, the 10 GB total plan over 30 days at $10.01. For remote work, the 30 GB total plan at $25.34. For daily streaming or tethering, the 3 GB/day 30-day plan at $50.78 works out cheapest per gigabyte.
Can I use the same eSIM for a semester?
Each plan has a fixed validity, so a semester needs more than one plan. Buy the 30-day option that matches your usage and plan to add another when it ends — we will tell you what is available before you run out.
Does the 30 days start when I buy or when I arrive?
When you first connect. You can order and install the eSIM weeks in advance without consuming the validity period.
Will a long-stay plan work if I leave China and come back?
Validity runs continuously from first connection, so days spent outside China still count against the plan. If you are doing regional travel, a separate plan per country is usually simpler.
